Piano Repair

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

Regular use over time causes pianos to become de-tuned, effecting the general sound quality and pitch of your piano. Other common problems are thinning hammer felt, tired strings, broken piano hammers and chipped wood. All of these things can have a negative effect on the sound and general appearance of your piano. The professionals at Best Piano can restore the sound of your piano to its former glory.

REPLACING BROKEN STRINGS

Broken strings can be a common occurrence on certain pianos, especially if it is an older instrument, has been exposed to high humidity, or is played with a heavy hand. Replacing bass strings is more expensive than treble strings because they have to be custom made-to-order for your particular piano. The old bass string must be removed from the piano and ask for a piano parts supply house to be duplicated. A return visit to the customer location is required to install and tune the new string. However, new strings, bass or treble, will stretch and go flat in pitch quickly. Several follow-up visits may be required before the new stings “settle in”, so be prepared for at least a minimum service fee to have your piano technician.

REGULATION

Piano Regulation is a term that is used to refer to the intricate adjustments to the action of a piano (the part between the keys and the strings that makes the piano work) to make it play and feel the way it should. Pianos need to be regulated in order to keep them in good working condition (just like tuning!). Over time, the wood, felt, metal, and buckskin in the piano settles and compresses. Regulation re-adjusts these parts so the piano will perform optimally. There are an average of over 9,000 parts in a piano, regulating all the minute intricacies help the piano perform in the best way it can.
